Imagine yourself on a camel ride. trekking through the rolling orange Sahara desert of Erg Chebbi Dunes.
There is nothing around you and all you can hear are the footsteps of the camel on the soft sand. The sky is vast and clear in the day and filled with millions of bright stars at night.
It is a very peaceful experience, one raley known to most of the Western World.
Erg Chebbi (Berber: ⴻⵔⴳ ⵛⴱⵉ, Arabic: عرق الشبي) is one of Morocco’s several ergs – large seas of dunes formed by wind-blown sand. There are several other ergs such as Erg Chigaga near M’hamid.
Technically all these ergs are within an area of semi-arid Pre-Saharan Steppes and not part of the Sahara desert which lies some distance to the south.
In places, the dunes of Erg Chebbi rise up to 150 meters from the surrounding hamada (rocky desert) and altogether it spans an area of 28 kilometers from north to south and up to 5–7 kilometers from east to west lining the Algerian border.
The nearest sizable town is Erfoud, about 60 kilometers further north. One other city is Rissani, around 40 kilometers from Merzouga.
Rissani was the site of a kingdom known as Sijilmassa, which became prosperous from the 8th to the 14th century due to its control of the caravan routes.

Day 1 : Fes – medium Atlas – Midalet – Ziz valley – desert dunes
Desert trip from fes , our excursion start from fes at 08 :00 to desert via the wonderfull city Ifran , medium Atlas where are there many diffrent lanscapes , Azrou is a berber village where you have opportunity to take some pictures of monkeys . the lunch will be in Medilt than we will continue our way to Ziz valley . in the afternoon arreving to your hotel in desert .
Day 2 : Morocco Sahara desert tours
The desert excursion start at 09 :00 Am . After breakfast, tour the dunes by 4×4 to visit the nomads tents and oasis in the desert, then a visit the village known « «Khamlia », village of the Gnawa (black slaves former slaves of the sultan of Marrakech in 1590) enjoying thier dances and music.Lunch in Merzouga village. In the afternoon back to the hotel to start crossing the dunes by camels to spend the night at the nomad camp in middel of the dunes.
Day 3 : Desert – Rissani – Erfoud – Fes
Comeback to the hotel early and enjoying the vision of the sunrise in the dunes than retaking camels , in the hotel you will have a shower and breakfast . after that taking away to Fes, via Rissani the seat of the Alaouite family of the present king of Morocco. Not far from Rissani, in Erfoud you can stop to see the workings of thousands of fossils made into all sorts of artefacts continuing to Fes crossing again the medium atlas, lunch in medlet “the apple capital” arriving to Fes in the afternoon .
